Pauline Boty

Pauline Boty 1938-1966, is an artist I recently learnt about. Weird really considering she is seen as the founder of the British Pop art movement. A short life which ended in sacrifice. Amazing. Wonderful work. Here more about her.

Blanks

..following on from the last post... I have had to move some of my paintings and so have had some blank walls. It is the weirdest thing having empty walls. It has really unsettled me. As a visual person my surroundings really affect me and so these blank walls remind me I need artwork on walls in my life! What do you think?

Your art collection....what it says about you...

Not only does the art you have on the walls of your home make your home nicer it also expresses your personality and interests. The Affordable Art Fair conducted a survey  of 2000 people and found that one-third of them believed there was no better way to express their personality and to enhance the mood of a room. Being surrounded by art that expresses your personal tastes makes your dwelling into a home, sanctuary and a place you enjoy being. Here's to all the art that makes us happy!

Water reflections obsession

I have been completely obsessed with water reflections for my last sets of paintings. The constant changes of pattern, light and colour keep me absorbed. I will share here some of the images I have taken in relation to this. I hope you enjoy them also.

Many stages and battles to finish a painting...

As I was looking at some past photos I realised that I had taken some that show the progress of one of my recently sold paintings. I thought you might find it interesting to see the changes. This painting I battled with for a year and a half... but won in the end! It was inspired by water reflections.

note here....total frustration so a big load of paint into the middle!
 ...then finally to this outcome...phew!
never give up, never give up, never give up!

Making Art does you good!

I have been running some small select art classes in my studio and am constantly amazed at how creative and clever people can be when given the right environment. Then I found this article which I have suspected to be true for a while but here it is in print.
So if any of you brave souls are interested in coming for my art classes email/contact me. My philosophy is to take you out of your comfort zone, have fun and create. I teach absolute beginners through to art students. So if you have a creative interest, enjoy looking at art, making stuff and fancy having ago...let me know.  i run the classes in my studio at home, in village Oxfordshire.

Save the Date Artsweeks May!

Dear All
Now planning now for upcomiung exhibition for Oxfordshire Artsweeks. I shall be exhibiting in Aldworth with 2 other artists.

'Abundance of Colour'.
Inside find vibrant abstract and figurative paintings in oils, watercolours and mixed media by two different artists, Isobel Pigott and Roberta Tetzner.
Outside in the garden are Malcolm West's figurative sculptures. Roberta's abstract work is inspired by her surroundings and the beauty of the natural world. Her work is also available printed onto scarves, bags, cushions etc .
Isobel's recent work expresses her love of colour, pattern and form either through her painting of boats in Mousehole harbour or the Morris men at her local pub.
Malcolm West's garden sculptures are inspired by movement and beauty, classical subjects and dance. Come and relax in the lovely designer gardens where Malcolm will occasionally be doing demonstrations.
Afterwards venture down into the picturesque village to enjoy refreshments in the renowned pub. Please note: The venue is opposite Aldworth village hall. The postcode will take you to the village church.

NY show

I am going to  have one of my paintings flashed up on a screen in NY city during the Armory Artsweeks. The painting was inspired by a trip I made to NY...that vibrant city. It is made with mixed media materials including some memorabilia from the city itself....so it is sort of going home!
If you are in NY at the time do go along and ask about my painting... (and report back!)
Alas I am unable to be there myself to see it all.
Have a good week.
