New York New York...the big apple as inspiration

My fabulous recent trip to NY with a lovely friend has left  many images, ideas and thoughts in my mind.
We met some amazing people including finding a very inspiring gallery 'Spanierman'. Do look at their website if you like American abstract art. www.spanierman.com
Some of the colour abstracts this gallery sells are amazing.
So I set to work and after the usual ups and downs and 'ohhhh I'm never going to paint again' problems I have completed a painting I am now pleased with. There is a great richness in the colours which doesn't fully come across in the image but it gives a good idea of the painting.
The NY grid system and vibrancy were major players here.

I am now off to work on the others in the set..... so a big coffee and off to the studio!

October 9,2012 Colour ... Green.

Interesting that when you are really thinking about something it pops up all over the place.
I went to the 'Real homes' exhibition at Olympia and while I was there I went to a talk about colour in your home.
I have also just been teaching some artists colour theory. The theory is really the same ,just adjusted to an environment, a canvas or piece of paper. One thing I thought was particularly interesting was that if you have a blue flower pattern in a front room on the wall and then have the same colours in a stripe on a back wall of an adjacent room, it will look longer than if painted a plain colour (from the flower pattern). How the keep the eye moving. How to keep the interest.

As the colours of the trees are about to change, I am concentrating on painting these different greens before they leave for another year.
I have got as far as about 50.
Nature is so amazing and we forget to look at it closely.

Autumn here...orange

It's back to school, routine and that autumn air is here. We have geese flying over regularly in triangles. I have been mixing and exploring some beautiful colours to paint with. I also went to a colour lecture which was interesting. How different colours affect us. So today I'm off to have an orange day!! (joy!).

Olymic fever

I went to the Olympics yesterday. What an amazing buzz ..... people from all over the world together enjoying the same activity. Powerful stuff. The design of the park and buildings very interesting to see.I saw judo and boy do those girls look strong. Then in the afternoon watched basketball. In the Turkish women's team there was a small (compared to the other players...probably not in real life!) tenacious blond who was spectacular to watch...so much energy and 'go'. Just what you need in life! As someone said being an artist is like running a marathon, not a a sprint. So onwards!

Andy Warhol

Just found this great quote by Andy Warhol

“Don’t think about making art. Just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they’re deciding, make even more art.”

Andy Warhol

June update

Phhhew! Artweeks is over. It was lovely to see all these people coming to our show and to talk to them about my work. I had some great conversations and met some very interesting people. Including a wonderful artist from Canada!

It has been a busy time. With work now up in London at :
 Taylor St Baristas
125 Old Broad St
London
EC2N 1AR

(this is near Bank tube station and near the Bank of England encase anyone wants a peek.)

and my gallery had my work up in their window over Artweeks. The paintings looked great.
I have also taken the plunge in starting the process of giglee printing and should have some of my flower paintings as 50cm x 50cm prints in the gallery soon....so those that want a smaller image and a cheaper option...here we go!

So now it is catching up on some admin!! I had better get on with it and stop procrastinating!
Let the sun come out and stay with us!!

Garden Flowers 1

This is the second painting that is in the gallery.

My Flower paintings are in the Gallery

Wow! Two of my flower paintings (1m x 1m) are now hanging in the new Art@Goring Gallery in Goring on Thames.
The new owner came to my studio and loved the flower paintings so the following day the went into the gallery and are now up on the walls.
They look fantastic. Anyone who is passing do have a peek inside.
My 'Pink Rose 1' has been put on a red wall and looks stunning. I was a little concerned it might be overwhelmed on a cream wall with other works around it, but on it's own red wall it blooms!
