Light and shadow... paintings inspiration!

At present I am really fascinated by shadows and patterns that I find in my surroundings.
I try to go for regular walks and so gather ideas and inspiration from all around me. I shall enclose some examples. Often it is not the large impressive things that inspire me but small moments, glimses that stay with me.

Happy holidays

Here's hoping that the weather is kind to you.

Traveling and finding sculptures to inspire

Having returned from a wonderful trip and now pouring over the photos, I am particularly drawn to the imagination and skill of the sculptures at 'Raganu Kalnas' near Juodkrante. The Hill of Witches is an outdoor sculpture gallery near Juodkrantė, Lithuania.
There are many sculptures there one even better than the next.
If you are ever near there do go and visit.
Please see my pictures below.

Regatta and art 2017

I was honoured with one of my paintings being put on the front cover of the Goring and Streatley Regatta program. This painting inspired by light falling on water, I donated to help raise money for the Goring Gap Boat Club. It went into a silent auction and helped raise funds towards the new boat house. Well done lucky winner...whoever you are.
It was a shame about the rain but hey.
Also at the regatta I ran an art table for children (and adults!) to have a creative moment...lovely to see how absorbed children can get. Creativity at it's best. Here's to more creative moments.

Young art enthusiast

A little girl who I have been teaching art to has bought (with a little help from her lovely parents!) one of my paintings.
Here is the moment I gave it her recently. She is a very keen artist already and with such support I think she is always going to have an enjoyment of art.
This is how I first came to appreciate art through a lovely neighbour who made art when I was a young girl.
I hope she will remember this with fondness, as will I.

The Turner Prize 2017 nominations

http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/ferens-art-gallery/exhibition/turner-prize-2017

The Turner Prize is an annual well known contemporary art prize. It is so interesting that now the age limit of 50 has been removed from the Turner prize. I wonder if it will change the Turner Prize in some way. It is being held in Hull.

Flattered...

I am truly flattered that the artist Peg Salaun has used my art as inspiration for her own work. In my eyes, art is the spark which starts the imagination; it provokes thoughts in people's minds. So for my art to have been the spark to Peg's imagination and own creativeness, greatly humbles me. It is an honour for me to have been able to enlighten Peg to share her own thoughts and feelings through artwork of such good standard. I thank Peg for mentioning me in her artwork and wish to keep trying to inspire innovation in other people.

When it goes wrong...

Ever had that feeling that you were doing great and then suddenly it all goes wrong?...
As an artist I often have times when something I am working on just does not go the way I want it to. That is the big crunch moment. That is when I need to muster up all my courange and confiction to plough through it ...and maybe even give up on said piece for a while ....or several years in some cases!
When people say to me....oh it must be so lovely and relaxing beig an artist... I realise they have no idea about the dead ends, and misshaps that also need to occur. These are often the points where a new brake through comes....but it is often painful!
So to all of you that are in that slump...I salute you.
Have a fun filled week.

Other points of view while looking at art...

It is always interesting to me to see how different people see my work and how it affects them.  Especially with abstract paintings like mine the interpretations and reactions can be quite diverse.
People have asked me in the past what they should see in a particular painting....and what had I had in mind when painting this? Although the latter I can usually have some discussion about....how I was feeling at the time of painting, what had inspired me etc, however what they should see in the painting I think is completely up to the viewer.
We all have had different experiences in life and have associations with different places. This translates into a whole range of related associations in our heads with particular shapes, colours, textures etc. So when we are looking at a piece of artwork those connections come in to play and give us a special relationship with a piece of art. Hence it can be so wonderfully uplifting to find a piece of art you have a special connection to.
I hope you have a week full of such inspiring art
connections.

Young collector at PV

Yesterday....the Private View of my abstract art exhibition, was lovely. It was so wonderful to see some people I hadn't't seen for a while as well as great new acquaintances and true faithfuls.
One delightful moment came when a little girl of 4 years old told me she wanted to buy one of my paintings (with a little help from Mum and Dad). She is a very creative and bright little girl who I have been teaching art.
When I discussed what the painting reminded me of....namely jumping over puddles...she started to imitate how she would jump over a puddle.
What forward thinking parents to let their daughter, who so enjoys all sorts of art, start her own art collection. With parents like that I think she cannot fail to develop her natural interest and ability in art.
Here's to the joy a piece of art can give!
I hope you have a good, art filled week.

da Vinci on art...

I recently stumbled across this quote...

“Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.”
― Leonardo da Vinci

I hope your week is full of poetry and painting.

Fame at last!

The March issue of the GGN plopped into the letterbox yesterday....and there on page 7 is Yours Truly with my interview for the GGN. It was such a great interview to do as Dorothy is so easy to talk to. I was a bit worried I had given her too much information and I was wondering how she was going to make it all fit...but she did....and here is the result if you fancy a read.
Have a good week!

Cat art interest

There are times when one of my trusted 4 footed friends joins in the action. Either by giving his opinion.'...these drawings a great sitting on material.' Or 'thanks for leaving me this water pot full of water...it tastes so much better than mine.' I thought these images might amuse...

Blue blue blue art and fingers....is it winter?!?

I seem to have entered a blue period. For some reason blue seems to be on my mind. Water, the river and environment seem to be influencing me! Here are some details of paintings I am working on at the moment. This results in blue fingers! Hope you keep warm!
